Subjective. Memory vertical
Multimedia installation, Ukrainian contest of modern visual art of N. Altman (Vinnytsia, 2017)
Materials: video projection, photo, hand made vareniks
Size (cm): 400*400*250
The project is based on subjective experiences of losing ties with family relatives and their habits.
The fear of losing the touch with history, the gradual denial of traditions and the emptiness of a home on Christmas holidays...
For a woman, the non-return point in the estrangement from the family is a marriage - a joyous and at the same time a tragic moment of transition from one family to another, the own one.
A gesture that is repeated during the family reunion is an unspoken tradition - the cooking of dumplings, during which appears the communication - conversations, jokes, discussions of plans for the future etc.
Photos on a flash card and DNA are the same information. It forms a memory vertical, a connection to the past, and your place in it.
You determine its value by yourself, but the trail always remains regardless of nationality, age, place of residence etc.
Audio tracks comprises with sounds that conducts me during the way to my present home. Songs are sung by my aunt, and the last track is a song that was sung after blessing parents on my wedding.
In the frames of the project was presented a performance (Vinnytsya, land art festival “Mythogenesis”, 2017)
The project is a part of another large research project “Subjective. Fears.”
Every distinct narrative is a question I asked myself during the year.
Remarking moments when the conscience is paralyzed by the fear, when comes procrastination and the desire to be hidden from the world.
Search for the hidden meaning in own decisions, the impact of fears on my decisions and actions.
