Both Sides of the Border Face East

Members of the public are invited to events presented by “Both Sides of the Border Face East,” including scholarly discussions, a reading of translations, and an art exhibition. The events are part of a multi-lingual, trans-national project focused on responsibility, writing, and translation in East-Central Europe, with a special focus on Ukraine.
On June 30, Ihor Petriy (Scientific Library, Ivan Franko University) will moderate a literary discussion entitled Durable Words featuring Danylo Ilnytskyi (Ukrainian Catholic University), Zsuzsa Selyem (Babes-Bolyai University), and Ostap Slyvynsky (Ivan Franko University). It will take place at the Scientific Library of Ivan Franko National University, Lviv, 5 Drahomanova St. at 16:00.
On July 1, historian Marci Shore of Yale University will join Yaroslav Hrytsak (Ukrainian Catholic University), translator Jurko Prochasko, and Volodymyr Yermolenko (Kyiv-Mohyla Academy) to discuss the topic, “Writing Through Force,” moderated by Alisa Slaughter (University of Redlands). The event will also take place at the Scientific Library of Ivan Franko National University, Lviv, 5 Drahomanova St. at 16:00.
The final event of the colloquium is a reading of translations developed during the colloquium and an exhibition of artworks inspired by the texts. The event is organized and curated by Olena Kayinska, and will take place on July 1, HallArtHall, Hnat Khotkevych Palace of Culture, 1 Kushevycha St. at 17:00.
